The FCC ID is a unique string of numbers and letters to identify the manufacturer and the device.

The FCC ID is compromised of:
- Applicant/Grantee Code - 3 - 5 characters (Permanently assigned by the FCC for that company)
- Equipment Product Code - Assigned by the company that made the device.

Any time a device is approved by an experimental testing lab, it is placed on a database publicly available, and its research.

Every wireless device including phones have an FCC ID, for phones its usually under sections like "legal information" or "regulatory labels" or located on the physical device like on the battery.
